GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sen. 'Chuy' Hinojosa asked the Texas Water Development Board for $100 million to line 3,500 miles of canal in the Rio Grande Valley, which will help conserve 900,000 acre-feet of water each year. He urged public comments before Feb. 4 to support the effort. KRGV
- ➤ Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Wednesday the deployment of 500 miles of floating buoys along the Rio Grande to secure the border; local environmentalists from the South Texas Environmental Justice Network called the 15-foot barriers a ("death trap") and urged local officials to remove them.
