COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Low-income families can apply for space heaters at the Hidalgo County Community Service Agency on N. Closner Boulevard as a cold front approaches, with applications available online or by phone (956-383-6240). KRGV
- ➤ Palm Valley Animal Society is asking residents to foster 300 dogs ahead of an approaching cold front today. The shelter accepts donations (supplies and funds) to help care for the animals and will provide food and medication to foster parents. KRGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, Hidalgo County officials conducted a head count to track the homeless population, recording over 250 people in 2025 compared to 200 the previous year. Updated data will help plan future services. KRGV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ As an arctic cold front moves in, first responders warn Mission residents to use generators, space heaters, and gas stoves properly to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning — a silent killer that has no sight or smell, reminding everyone to install a detector and seek warm shelter as needed. KRGV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Sharyland Pioneer cheer team captured the 5A Division II state championship last weekend in Fort Worth by outperforming (78 teams) to earn its second title after a third-place finish last year. KRGV
- ➤ Valley View boys soccer will face Hidalgo this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Hidalgo to vie for district first place. Both teams bring strong histories as Hidalgo won two state titles and Valley View reached the 5A state championship in 2021. KRGV
