- ➤ Weslaco native Gene De La Garza has finished a 35-minute documentary exploring the Rio Grande Valley’s rich history and cultural shifts—tracing the citrus boom and labor challenges—and made it available on YouTube to inspire local research. KRGV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ McAllen and PSJA school districts voted unanimously to opt out of Senate Bill 11—rejecting a state-mandated prayer policy—during meetings last Monday and Tuesday. They have until March 1 to decide on any policy changes required under state law. MyRGV.com
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Former Connecticut star Tristen Newton led the Vipers with 34 points in a 109-102 win over the San Diego Clippers on Wednesday, Feb. 25, snapping a 10-game home winning streak. The team will host the Noblesville Boom in Edinburg on Friday at 7:00 p.m. KRGV
- ➤ Lyford high school senior Brooklynn Burns was named Channel 5's Playmaker of the Week after surpassing 1,000 career points and 500 rebounds while helping the Lady Bulldogs to 109 wins over four seasons (she will continue playing intramurals and study abroad in Spain and Italy). KRGV
