ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Brownsville and San Benito residents offered mixed views on a new multi-billion dollar oil refinery project—breaking ground in April at the Port of Brownsville—that may create hundreds of construction jobs and 500 permanent positions. Some worry about environmental impacts while others expect a boost in local opportunities. KRGV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Hidalgo County Health and Human Services is asking residents to complete a mosquito survey to track 30 species and improve prevention measures against West Nile and other viruses. Epidemiologist Amy Gonzalez said responses will guide local education efforts (dozens have already contributed). KRGV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The UTRGV Vaqueros ended their season Tuesday with an 84-80 triple-overtime loss to the McNeese Cowboys in the Southland Conference Tournament. The short-handed team (missing key players due to fouls) could not secure a win, ending postseason play for both programs. KRGV
- ➤ The UTRGV women’s basketball season ended after the Vaqueros lost 67 to 52 against McNeese in the conference tournament. Freshman Chazlyn Dettor scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Charlotte O’Keefe also contributed significantly during the game. KRGV
