CRIME NEWS

  • McAllen police are searching for 35-year-old Antonio Ramirez Jr.—a Hispanic man described as 5’06 in height and 185 pounds with black hair and brown eyes—wanted in connection with home improvement thefts from retail stores on January 7 and February 15, with a last known address in Mission; anyone with information should call McAllen Crime Stoppers at 956-687-8477.  KRGV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Four educators from the Rio Grande Valley formed a band called Vinyl Spin that gained over 68,000 followers since 2020 and won Rock-N-Roll Band of the Year at the 2025 RGV Star Awards. Manny Rodriguez, the fine arts director at Valley View ISD, and his teammates now perform at local events to share the region's rich music culture — showing that teachers can follow their dreams.  KRGV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Out-of-state fire crews from California, Colorado, Delaware and Utah are preparing to assist in the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio if lightning sparks wildfires amid rain expected today. Texas A&M Forest Service officials said crews will focus on high, dry grass areas to protect local property—such as a family-run fruit stand along U.S. Highway 281—from additional fire risks.  KRGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A portion of eastbound Frontage Road at Conway Avenue was closed yesterday for railroad crossing repairs from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and reopened today from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.—motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and follow posted detour signs.  FOX RGV

  • PSJA's Jayden James signed with Texas A&M Kingsville on March 25 — the star defensive end recorded 10 sacks over two seasons and earned back-to-back first All-District honors while following in his father's footsteps. He said the move meant a lot as it fulfilled his longtime dream.  KRGV
