EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Region One Education Service Center helps more than two dozen people get teaching certificates in math and science with funds from the Rio South Texas Education Agency (the grant pays for 25 spots for Texas teacher and principal training). It will begin its next round of classes in May. KRGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Rio Hondo lift bridge reopened on Thursday after crews fixed damage caused by a vehicle hitting its power junction box on March 22—road closures were in place during the repairs, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. KRGV
- ➤ A bail reform package passed by the Texas Senate in February is expected to worsen jail overcrowding in Hidalgo County because it makes it harder for people accused of serious crimes to get bail—District Attorney Terry Palacios said the county already faces overcapacity and will need extra funding to expand its jail. - ➤ The Rio Grande Valley Vipers beat the Stockton Kings 113-102 Saturday night to clinch a playoff berth as N’Faly Dante had 20 points and 20 rebounds—Nate Williams and David Roddy also led the scoring.
