COMMUNITY NEWS

  • In north Mercedes, retired couple Francisco and Vicenta Cabriales experienced over three inches of water entering their trailer last week, which moved part of the structure and damaged flooring and belongings. Hidalgo County workers removed the standing water on Wednesday & the couple has reported the damage to the state as families across the Rio Grande Valley continue to face flooding.  KRGV

CRIME NEWS

  • Clayton Wayne Neuhaus, a 28-year-old whose family owns the private border wall in Mission, was convicted of manslaughter for killing a 47-year-old man in a Weslaco crash on Sept. 29 at 11:26 p.m. and received a month in prison with 10 years probation.  MyRGV.com
  • On March 28, a vehicle in Edcouch involved in an alleged human smuggling attempt drove into a flooded canal and killed a teenager and an adult woman while five others survived, and two suspects were arrested and are scheduled to appear in federal court today.  KRGV

  • U.S. Reps. Vicente Gonzalez and Monica De La Cruz responded after Edinburg’s Sgt. Alfredo 'Freddy' Gonzalez was removed from a naval history website during a purge of DEI content. The lawmakers defended the Vietnam War hero’s legacy and criticized the move—his service remains honored on official Navy websites.  MyRGV.com
  • Texas DPS warned local drivers that ignoring flood barricades set after recent storms may cost up to $2,000 in fines or jail time—motorists must follow these barriers while crews continue to check road safety.  FOX RGV
