  • Capable Kids is a non-profit that offers inclusive sports and social programs for kids and young adults with disabilities at the Hidalgo County Precinct 2 Indoor Sports Complex. The group modifies equipment for activities like baseball and surf clinics—celebrating 10 years of inclusion in the Rio Grande Valley.  KRGV
  • The Salvation Army of McAllen helped families affected by floods from severe thunderstorms in the Rio Grande Valley in March and served over 35,000 hot meals to those forced to leave their homes—officials said the group is now asking for donations to continue its disaster recovery plan.  KRGV

CRIME NEWS

  • Four individuals from Mexico were sentenced in Edinburg for their roles in a cocaine smuggling conspiracy involving over 220 pounds of drugs—with sentences ranging from three to nearly six years—after an investigation that began in 2022.  MyRGV.com

  • The Marías announced their Submarine Tour Extended on April 10 and will perform in McAllen on July 10 at the McAllen Convention Center with special guest julie + presale tickets begin on April 15 at 10 a.m. and run until 10 p.m.  MyRGV.com

ECONOMY NEWS

  • State comptroller figures showed that February sales tax collections in the Valley fell compared to last year (Mission revenue dropped 19.53% to $2.03 million and Brownsville declined 13.55% to $4.21 million) while other cities saw smaller drops. Major business sectors and retail contributed to a overall statewide decline of 2.7%.  MyRGV.com
