- ➤ Team Mario partnered with Hidalgo County law enforcement on Wednesday to host autism awareness training that taught officers new techniques for handling calls involving people on the spectrum—over 90 participants attended the two-hour session with role-playing and video presentations. KRGV
- ➤ A McAllen teen reported missing on April 14—Jennifer Rodriguez—was found and reunited with her family, according to a news release. KRGV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 56-year-old Mission man was arrested on April 9th after he confessed to stealing over $4,000 in equipment including a drum set, sound system and chairs from a church on Navaho Street—his bond was set at $10,000. KRGV
- ➤ Customs and Border Protection officers arrested Elmor Leonel Ramos‑Aburcia at the B&M International Bridge on Tuesday after he removed his shirt and tackled an officer while trying to enter without documents—he later appeared in federal court and is set for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday. - ➤ McAllen Police are searching for three women accused of forging checks at local banks + they are reviewing surveillance footage and coordinating with other agencies as the investigation continues into similar fraud cases. FOX RGV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Region One program is set to help high school graduates get high paying jobs in the Valley by working with public schools to create a real world curriculum—starting next month, leaders from education, government, healthcare and IT will meet with school officials. South Texas Health System noted that the training will fill a need for skilled workers as they care for hundreds of patients each month. KRGV

- ➤ Joe Vera, a longtime public servant from Hidalgo and McAllen who helped grow BorderFest and other city events, died Wednesday morning at 69. McAllen City Manager Isaac Tawil announced his death on Thursday during a news conference—his legacy will be honored at the upcoming Border Texan of the Year event on May 8. MyRGV.com
