CULTURE NEWS

  • Thousands attended Easter Sunday Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle in celebration of Jesus' resurrection, where parishioners prayed for loved ones and for those affected by recent floods. Father Jorge Gomez urged parishioners to be a beacon of hope—reminding everyone that peace in the world starts with peace in ourselves.  KRGV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Mission and nearby counties can join the City Nature Challenge from April 24 to 28 — a citizen science event where participants photograph local plants and animals and submit observations to help build a scientific database — to document regional wildlife.  MyRGV.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Last year, Driscoll opened the first freestanding children’s hospital to help local families get the care they needed. Future Medicaid changes could force patients to change plans, but state lawmakers have introduced SB 2388 and HB 3538 to protect local services—keeping trusted care available for children and expectant mothers.  MyRGV.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sharyland Pioneer’s Derek Thompson won the Class 5A shot put on Friday with a best throw of 64 feet 4 inches, breaking his school's record set by his brother and earning a state track spot. He also took silver in the discus as he returned from an injury that nearly kept him out of both events.  MyRGV.com
