- ➤ The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Noche de Gala on May 14 at the Corinthians Event Center in Mission (1516 East Expressway 83). The event will feature food, drinks, and entertainment, according to President Cynthia M. Sakulenzki. KRGV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Texas icon Kacey Musgraves will perform three shows at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels on May 3, 4 and 5. McAllen’s mariachi brothers will open each show and tickets go on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. for $65 plus $11 service fee. MyRGV.com
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Immigration attorneys, advocacy groups, and social service coordinators in South Texas reported DACA renewal delays that led to job losses, with one Pharr resident losing his job after his status expired in February; USCIS cited longer vetting procedures while urging timely renewals. KRGV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, warm air trapped smoke from agricultural burns in Mexico and Central America over the Rio Grande Valley. Health officials advise residents with allergies, asthma or oxygen reliance to stay indoors until air quality improves. KRGV
- ➤ Sebastian MUD has issued a boil water notice following a water line break. Residents must boil water for two minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, or washing. KRGV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UTRGV men's and women's golf teams prepare for the NCAA Tournament. The men's team practiced in McAllen today after winning their first Southland Conference Championship, plus the women's team will learn their regional assignment tomorrow. KRGV
