CRIME NEWS

  • Kristian Valenzuela, accused of murder and evidence tampering in the 2023 death of Editza Gomez in Mission, returned to court on Wednesday as his attorney requested to depose a police investigator before trial, with the judge expected to decide on May 14.  KRGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Alamo Mayor J.R. Garza said Mexico will deliver 420,000 acre-feet of water by October to help ease restrictions from low dam levels in parts of Hidalgo County—he added that the city is checking plans for a second water well as it grows. Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz announced the deal on Tuesday to settle a 1944 water treaty debt.  KRGV
  • Hidalgo County Precinct 3 Commissioner Everardo Villarreal has offered a $500 reward for any tips on identifying the person who vandalized the under-construction Community Resource Center and Hidalgo County Health Clinic at 1901 North Los Ebanos Road in Mission — his Facebook post said the graffiti marred the building's exterior.  KRGV

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Texas Health System is offering 2D mammograms for $100, 3D mammograms for $155 and bone density screenings for $155 during May—appointments must be booked by Saturday, May 31.  KRGV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nikki Rowe track star Hailey Gonzalez signed to join the Texas A&M—Corpus Christi track program on Wednesday afternoon. Gonzalez, a district champion and two-time regional qualifier who holds the school record in the 200-meter dash, said she is excited to train near home with the Islanders.  KRGV
