COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Arrow Child and Family Ministries will host a foster care pop-up event on May 10 at Lit Coffee on Colorado Street in Mission, and the event will provide key information for those interested in fostering + support Foster Care Awareness Month in the Rio Grande Valley.  KRGV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at UTRGV School of Medicine are upset after many MD professors left during a restructuring that saw over 60 clinical faculty depart — they fear losing a key clinical view in their training and its impact on future patient care. A school spokesman said new full time and community clinicians were hired to match trends at other med schools nationally — though concerns remain about meeting accreditation standards.  MyRGV.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, the Texas House passed a flood finance bill that will let the Delta Region Water Management Project qualify for funding under the Flood Infrastructure Fund—if Gov. Abbott signs it. The bill supports a project in northern Hidalgo and southern Willacy counties designed to capture stormwater, agricultural runoff, and treated wastewater, with the law becoming effective on September 1.  KRGV
