GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mission Police Department held a memorial ceremony Monday outside its headquarters along the Rio Grande Valley — part of National Police Week — to honor officers killed in the line of duty. Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office will host its annual Fallen Officer Memorial Ceremony Thursday to recognize similar sacrifices. KRGV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Tim Smith from First Warn 5 interviewed Driscoll Children's Hospital RGV President Matthew Wolthoff about the ongoing KRGV Cares Closet campaign that supports extended stays at our local hospitals by providing toys and essential items for children in need. KRGV
- ➤ South Texas Health System is raising stroke awareness with its Steps For Stroke challenge. The event kicks off with a pep rally at STHS McAllen on May 15 & the challenge runs from May 16 to May 22. KRGV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Pioneer track star Liz Keith signed with Our Lady of the Lake on Monday afternoon and celebrated her commitment in front of her school — the high jump record holder and regional qualifier marked a proud moment for the community. KRGV
- ➤ Ethan Silva, a Weslaco Panthers catcher, signed his national letter of intent with Mountain View College on Monday, May 11 — he earned All-District honors last season and now looks to advance his college baseball career. KRGV
- ➤ UTRGV women's golf is competing in the NCAA regionals in Tallahassee and sits 11th at +13 after round 1; top finishers will advance to nationals on May 22. KRGV
