- ➤ KRGVCares Closet campaign has raised over $1,500 to buy toys and crafts for children at local hospitals. Donations will help fill the closets at Driscoll Children's Hospital and South Texas Health System Children's before Friday, May 15. KRGV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Mission native Dulce Leal (a Texas A&M student) is selected for the national art contest The People's Artist created by Johnny Depp. Her art draws on family, architecture, and local roots, and she hopes to use the $25,000 prize for her Master’s degree if she wins. KRGV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Toys from the KRGVCares Closet are helping a 13-month-old patient recover at Driscoll Children's Hospital after an emergency admission following a suspected ingestion (his father said the play-based therapy has motivated movement). The campaign supports ongoing play therapy for hospitalized children. KRGV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Three Sharyland Rattler baseball players signed on Tuesday afternoon to play college ball. Sergio Ibarra will join Navarro College, Nicholas Valdez is headed to Texas A&M Kingsville, and Rogelio Rodriguez signed with Cisco College after earning All District honors. KRGV
- ➤ St. Joseph Academy state champion soccer star Johnny Cardona signed with St. Thomas University in Miami on Tuesday afternoon. He earned All-District and All-State honors after helping his team reach the state semifinal and winning the championship last season and will begin college this fall. KRGV
