CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ 31-year-old artist Karina Gonzalez from Elsa painted Weslaco Animal Care Services free after winning a city art competition last April, transforming the shelter into a welcoming, family-friendly space that boosted pet adoptions. She will soon begin work on a library project in San Antonio. KRGV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UTRGV baseball lost 6-5 in the Southland Conference tournament on Thursday and will face elimination at 1:00 p.m. on Friday against Lamar — the team must win to continue in the tournament. KRGV
- ➤ UTRGV's Armani Raygoza became the first player in Southland Conference history to win Player of the Year in consecutive seasons (May 14) after leading with 17 home runs, 49 RBI and a .307 average. KRGV
- ➤ Olivia Wood of St. Joseph Academy won her second TAPPS state discus title and received the Marist Leadership award, proving her talent as a multi-sport athlete. Her coach praised her focus and hard work during the competition. KRGV
- ➤ Edcouch-Elsa senior golfer Jordan Hernandez signed with Texas A&M-Victoria's golf program on Thursday, May 14. She earned Newcomer of the Year honors and multiple All-District selections before joining the team. KRGV
