CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Hugo Armando Bazan Jr.—a Mission man arrested Sunday—is charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for a May 7 crash in McAllen that killed Marlene Delgadillo and injured Marissa Delgado Mejia, and he remains held on a $150,000 bond at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ After a long pause during the pandemic, Texas school ratings for the 2022-2023 school year were released, with most Rio Grande Valley districts earning a B and Mercedes ISD receiving a C—ratings for the 2023-2024 year remain unannounced. Abigail Flores, a Mercedes parent of a kindergartener showing early signs of autism, said she hopes the rating will spur improvements in school support. KRGV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Diamondbacks track star David Zuniga signed with UTSA track & field on Monday afternoon after setting school records in the 5k, two-mile, and one-mile at Pioneer High; he won the district mile and two-mile races and is a two-time regional qualifier. Zuniga said his signing marks a milestone built on years of hard work and dedication to his sport. KRGV
- ➤ Current Spurs forward Keldon Johnson will host a basketball camp on May 25th at the DHR Sports Center in Edinburg from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. while former Spurs guard Danny Green will lead a returning camp on June 1st at the same venue with the same schedule. KRGV
