- ➤ Facing the Fury on May 29th at 6:30 p.m. offered critical guidance for families to prepare for Hurricane Season 2025 as hurricanes brought strong winds, floods, and storm surge— the largest weather team in the Valley shared safety tips to help reduce disaster impacts. KRGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ FEMA is opening three new disaster recovery centers in the Rio Grande Valley tomorrow to provide federal aid for those affected by the severe storms and flooding in March. The centers (located at the San Benito Parks and Recreation Building in Cameron County and at McAllen’s Las Palmas Community Center and the Pharr Development and Research Center in Hidalgo County) will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. FOX RGV
- ➤ Barry Goldsmith from the NWS Brownsville office said that buyout programs and expected staff moves have not hurt the Valley weather service because a forecaster was set to retire and a manager left for a promotion—while a technician role remains open and the federal hiring freeze will delay hiring until July.
