➤ Starting July 1, Texas car dealerships will provide metal license plates for new vehicle purchases as mandated by House Bill 718—dealers will keep trade-in plates and store them securely. Mercedes-Benz of San Juan and local law enforcement say the change will reduce fraudulent use of paper plates—temporary metal plates will be issued when needed for test drives or out-of-state buyers. CRIME NEWS

➤ Mario Alberto Rodriguez, a 44-year-old Mission man, pleaded guilty to a $770k fraud scheme that deceived buyers by selling fake lots with promises of home construction—he now faces up to 20 years in prison. FOX RGV
➤ Kevin Alfredo Gonzalez faces criminal negligent homicide charges for a January 2024 crash that killed motorcyclist Isaiah Angelo Torres north of Palm View on La Road & his arraignment is set for next Monday. FOX RGV
