CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Deputies responded early Sunday morning at around 2:16 a.m. on the 600 block of North Bentsen Palm Drive in rural Mission and found 49-year-old Armando Giovannotto with multiple stab wounds, while his domestic partner Kevin Lee Gutierrez — a 34-year-old man — fled the scene but was later detained at a La Joya residence and is now receiving treatment for wrist cuts as the investigation continues. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Quinta Mazatlán and the Valley Land Fund are launching a free Youth Nature Photo Contest for children aged 6 to 18 to take photos of nature anywhere in the Rio Grande Valley this summer. The contest will accept entries online by July 31 and hold an awards ceremony at 7:00 p.m.—Saturday, Aug. 16, where cash prizes and a free T-shirt will be given. MyRGV.com
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local native trees in Mission have put on a bright display this season. The blooms started in late winter with huisache then moved to retama and Texas Ebony on June 1 when its branches turned from greenish white to white then yellow—late May rain helped spark these changes across the region. LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ Cinderella Pet Rescue offers adoptions for two pets this week—Nimbus, a calm 3-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier weighing 45 pounds who loves water, and Eden, a young tabby kitten awaiting surgery. The non-profit shelter, run by volunteers, rescues neglected animals and depends on community support to keep its mission going. MyRGV.com

- ➤ PSJA North won the first game in the 7 on 7 Championship Bracket but later lost to Dripping Springs. KRGV
- ➤ The RGV Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony will honor local athletes and sports leaders by celebrating their outstanding contributions to sports. Officials plan to use the event to recognize notable achievements in our region. KRGV
- ➤ RGV Red Crowns canceled two recent home games (the last two scheduled) when visiting Dallas teams did not show up, leaving fans unable to watch the matches and receiving refunds for single game tickets. President Jamal Fayyad said the club will schedule extra friendly games (including one with a nearby team) to meet its promise of five home games this summer. KRGV
- ➤ McAllen High’s state champion Arsyn Sadlier and national medalist Bella Fernandez lead a team that will represent Texas at the National Championships in Fargo, ND starting July 10—this event is a new step in growing RGV Wrestling’s success. KRGV
