- ➤ Tomorrow at the Llano Grande Event Center, the Hidalgo County Health Department will host the third annual Health and Community Back to School Bash offering free backpacks, school supplies, food and vaccinations for eligible participants. Donations will be given on a first-come basis (4:00 PM to 6:30 PM) with children needing to be present to receive supplies (event meant to help students start the school year). FOX RGV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ U.S. Border Patrol and DPS uncovered a $1.5 million cocaine stash in a Mission mobile home last Wednesday—48 pounds were hidden in a wooden box, two suspects were arrested, and three undocumented immigrants from Nepal, El Salvador and Guatemala were found. FOX RGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Texas appeals court denied Attorney General Ken Paxton's request to depose Sister Norma Pimentel of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley and upheld a lower court ruling from last year. The court said Paxton had not met the burden of proof — the charity had already provided documents and a sworn statement — so the investigation will move forward without additional testimony. KRGV
