- ➤ Two Mission teens are charged with aggravated robbery after a $500 gun sale turned violent when a 23-year-old man was shot in the shoulder during a red Ford Mustang chase—authorities set a $250,000 bond for each teen as the victim remains hospitalized. FOX RGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Texas mayors & business leaders urged the federal government today to reform immigration policies so local farms and industries can hire legal workers amid severe labor shortages. They said current rules have hurt the economy and a three-day policy summit in Washington on October 22 will explore new solutions. FOX RGV
- ➤ Farmers in the Rio Grande Valley met in Mercedes on Thursday as IBWC Commissioner Chad McIntosh visited Mexico to press for water debt payments — Mexico has delivered less than 800,000 acre-feet of the 1,750,000 required by the treaty. He returns from Mexico today — negotiations remain sensitive as local farmers await additional water before the October deadline. KRGV
- ➤ Authorities are urging drivers and pedestrians to follow school zone safety rules as the new school year begins, noting TxDOT data showed 781 crashes last year that resulted in two fatalities and 17 serious injuries.
