SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UTRGV wrapped up its final practice on Wednesday as it prepared for its inaugural game against Sul Ross State Saturday. Head Coach Travis Bush confirmed that Mission native Eddie Lee Marburger will start at quarterback. KRGV
- ➤ Former Weslaco offensive coordinator Joe Pena will lead the Edinburg Bobcats in the 2025 football season and aims to move the team past the bi-district rounds for the first time since 2021—an experienced squad with a new culture will open the season at home against Mercedes. KRGV
- ➤ UTRGV women's basketball will host the Texas Longhorns at Bert Ogden Arena on December 10th at 6:30 p.m. and the University of Houston at UTRGV Fieldhouse on November 20th at 6:30 p.m. to prepare for conference play — head coach Lane Lord said playing top teams builds the team's confidence. - ➤ UTRGV’s football team is partnering with local high school programs ahead of its first season by sharing training and inviting coaches and players to observe Division I practices. UTRGV will host a football clinic in the spring to build strong ties and spot skilled players early—Coach Travis Bush said the initiative benefits both teams. KRGV
- ➤ High school football teams in the Rio Grande Valley will use new wearable play-calling technology approved by the UIL this fall. Coaches will send plays from tablets to players' watches that vibrate & alert them, though some schools might delay adoption due to cost. KRGV
