  • Hidalgo County authorities, aided by the Texas Rangers, are investigating the death of 56-year-old inmate Romolo Toscano—who was frequently treated at the hospital and died Tuesday after reporting illness.  FOX RGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new Texas law allowed game officials at high school football games in the Rio Grande Valley to remove disruptive fans without warning—keeping games safe. McAllen police enforced clear bag checks and extra parking lot patrols as measures were used last Friday night.  KRGV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Texas lawmakers passed a bill sending House Bill 25 to Governor Abbott's desk that will make Ivermectin available over the counter at pharmacies in 90 days, and Hidalgo County Health Authority Dr. Ivan Melendez warned that unsupervised use may lead to risks such as nausea, seizures, and life-threatening allergic reactions — urging caution in its off-label use. This bill could change how the drug is accessed, impacting both human and animal health.  KRGV

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Aug. 29, 2025, Friday's sports highlights reported final scores from local games, with the Mission Veterans Patriots scoring over 28 points and teams like the Marine Military Leathernecks and McAllen Rowe Warriors posting winning numbers plus several other teams finishing strong.
