- ➤ A local trucking company is offering English classes to its drivers after a federal rule required truck drivers to know English and Gov. Abbott ordered strict enforcement on Sept.4. Safety director Juan Silva said the training helps avoid delays and extra costs — the company wants drivers to meet the new requirement and stay on schedule. KRGV

- ➤ School board trustees in the Rio Grande Valley have formed the South Texas School Board Association—led by Edinburg CISD trustee David Torres and created by former State Board member Ruben Cortez—to give local districts a unified voice in Austin. The group plans to recruit more members to strengthen its impact on public education. KRGV

- ➤ Friday, Sept. 19 saw high school football games end with many teams posting final scores, including the local Mission Veterans Patriots who earned 27 points.
