GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cameron County finalized an agreement with Union Pacific Railroad on October 7 to buy its 50% stake in the B&M bridge in Brownsville, and officials said the county will complete the deal by the end of this year or early next year. County leaders said the purchase will preserve a key bi-national crossing and generate revenue to help pay any debt for the purchase. MyRGV.com
- ➤ Hidalgo County held its State of the County Address in McAllen for the first time in over a decade to highlight drainage improvements over 330 miles using nearly $45 million in state and federal funds. County leaders said they will continue to seek grants to upgrade the drainage system — a move aimed at reducing local costs and addressing poverty. KRGV

- ➤ Over the weekend, Tabatha Sullivent—whose left leg was partly lost in the Fourth of July shark attack at South Padre—returned to the Rio Grande Valley to thank the rescuers and medical staff while visiting friends in Laredo and Mission, and she said she remains determined to return to the water despite ongoing challenges. - ➤ DHR Health Surgeon Dr. Cera Kroenke joined Channel 5 News at noon today to stress that early breast cancer detection is key — she said timely screenings can lead to better treatment outcomes. KRGV
