Cameron County finalized an agreement with Union Pacific Railroad on October 7 to buy its 50% stake in the B&M bridge in Brownsville, and officials said the county will complete the deal by the end of this year or early next year.

County leaders said the purchase will preserve a key bi-national crossing and generate revenue to help pay any debt for the purchase.

Hidalgo County held its State of the County Address in McAllen for the first time in over a decade to highlight drainage improvements over 330 miles using nearly $45 million in state and federal funds.
