SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Channel 5 News airs Playmakers—an ongoing series that highlights Texas high school football players by showing key stats; it runs every Tuesday at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. and features standouts from teams such as PSJA and La Joya. KRGV
- ➤ The RGV Vipers will kick off their NBA G League season tomorrow at the Bert Ogden Arena when they host the Oklahoma City Blue in the Tip-Off Tournament. KRGV
- ➤ UTRGV Baseball has announced its 2026 schedule starting with a home three-game series against Kansas from February 13th to 15th plus a single game against Texas Tech on February 17th. Head Coach Derek Matlock said the early high-profile games against Texas and Houston will help test the team as they prepare for Southland Conference play. KRGV
- ➤ The UTRGV Vaqueros will host Nicholls on Saturday in Edinburg as they try to keep their undefeated home record—head Coach Travis Bush and players expect a tough challenge from a team with strong conference experience. The game is one of the final three of the season and will test the Vaqueros against an experienced opponent. KRGV
