COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, generous donors helped the 43rd annual Tim’s Coats campaign purchase 2,205 jackets + raise $42,000 in donations, and The Salvation Army with Catholic Charities will distribute the coats to those in need. KRGV
- ➤ Ned Sheats volunteered about 400 hours (approx.) to repair a historic clock damaged by storms and stored by the Mission Historical Museum. The clock now stands outside Mission City Hall and will be reinstalled soon as a symbol of local pride. KRGV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Aedyn Kroeker, a 19-year-old musician from McAllen, performs at local restaurants and bars across the Valley while pursuing a political science degree at UTRGV; he overcomes optic nerve hypoplasia (a condition affecting his vision) with determination and heart. KRGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting January 1, every Mission Fire Department engine will be upgraded to Advanced Life Support (ALS) with enhanced cardiac monitoring and airway management for immediate care at emergency scenes. KRGV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Local health officials and pharmacists note a rise in flu and RSV cases as winter nears and urge residents to get vaccinated and take precautions before holiday gatherings. KRGV
LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ Valley resident Amy Nittler gives her 20-year-old satin wedding dress to bride-to-be Sara Villareal via a Facebook post on Friday – the act helps Villareal, a mother of four, prepare for her outdoor wedding next year. KRGV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The UTRGV men’s basketball team defeated Lamar 83-72 Tuesday night at their campus court + Filip Brankovic and Marvin McGhee III each scored 18 points as the Vaqueros earned their first conference win. They will play their final non-conference game Friday in Edinburg. KRGV
- ➤ RGV Vipers forward Teddy Allen was named G League Player of the Week after averaging 40.5 points in two wins from Dec. 8-14+ he shot 66.7% from the field and 57.9% from three to secure key victories. KRGV
