  • Residents in Mission can protect their phones from spam calls and texts by signing up on the official Do Not Call Registry and enabling built-in call blocking features today. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. 'Chuy' Hinojosa asked the Texas Water Development Board for $100 million to line 3,500 miles of canal in the Rio Grande Valley, which will help conserve 900,000 acre-feet of water each year. He urged public comments before Feb. 4 to support the effort.  KRGV
  • Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Wednesday the deployment of 500 miles of floating buoys along the Rio Grande to secure the border; local environmentalists from the South Texas Environmental Justice Network called the 15-foot barriers a ("death trap") and urged local officials to remove them.  KRGV

  • The Total Golf facility at Rancho Viejo Resort & Country Club closed to the public on Jan. 5 due to high maintenance costs for tracer technology and a shift to members-only use; local golfers expressed frustrations with fewer practice options.  KRGV
