- ➤ On Saturday early morning, a 19-year-old Alamo woman died after being ejected from her vehicle in a rollover crash in Edinburg—another woman was hospitalized with minor injuries at 1:19 a.m. as police investigate the incident. KRGV
- ➤ A 19-year-old Alamo woman, Diedra Lynch Arroyo, died in a rollover crash in Edinburg early Saturday (May 3) when her 2009 GMC Yukon rolled over near Owassa Road and southbound I-69 Frontage Road; a 19-year-old passenger, Tatiana Giselle Garcia, sustained minor injuries. MyRGV.com
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office is searching for a Hispanic male suspect who allegedly shot a 22-year-old man at a Weslaco party on Saturday around 1:40 a.m. near the 3000 block of West Mile 5 North when the victim collapsed by his vehicle and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition—witnesses said the suspect fled in an older model red Ford Mustang with a black bumper. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hidalgo County has increased surveillance in rural areas including Edinburg after a man was caught illegally dumping tires and trash. Officials warn that trash weighing from 5 to 500 pounds is a misdemeanor (while 1,000 pounds or more may lead to state jail felony charges) and advise residents to use legal dump sites with permits. - ➤ Local governments are distributing sandbags and advising residents to clear streets to help prevent flooding from severe weather later this weekend — they are also checking generators and water pumps. - ➤ Border Patrol increased enforcement on the southern border last month by prosecuting over 3,000 cases, with 1,200 in the Rio Grande Valley — a shift that sends immigrants further into Mexico instead of back to the border.
